Thirteen/WNET New York Goes Primetime with Convio to Enhance Relationships with Viewers and Boost Online Giving

Nation's Most-Watched Public Television Station Will Use Market-Leading Internet Solution to Increase Constituent Base, Cultivate New Supporters

Thirteen/WNET New York, the nation's most-watched public television station, has selected Convio Internet tools to build stronger relationships with the station's supporters, increase its constituent base and accelerate its online fundraising.

Convio is the leading provider of online constituent relationship management solutions (eCRM) for nonprofits. The company's software and services help organizations use the Internet for building strong constituent relationships to drive fundraising, marketing, advocacy and other forms of mission-critical support.

Thirteen/WNET New York is the latest addition to Convio's growing roster of public broadcast customers which include television stations KCET Community Television of Southern California, Houston PBS, Oregon Public Broadcasting and KLRU in Austin. Convio also provides online tools to major market public radio customers, among them, Minnesota Public Radio, Chicago Public Radio, KUHF/Houston Public Radio, Austin's KUT and KCRW in Santa Monica.

While Thirteen already has a strong fundraising program and large member file, the station is looking to gain a better understanding of its donors and other constituents as well as more efficiently track interactions with them. Convio Fundraising Center (http://www.convio.com/fundraising) will help Thirteen boost online giving while enabling the station to gather important information about its members and Web site visitors, such as their favorite programs, personal interests and history of giving. Thirteen then can use this information to personalize email communications and Web site content, which helps to more effectively engage constituents as well as foster giving and greater loyalty.

"Thirteen understands that learning more about our viewers and supporters will, in turn, enable us to provide them with improved services," said Amy de Cillia, Director of Online Fundraising & Promotion, Thirteen/WNET New York. "Now we're better equipped to do this, and we look forward to using our new Internet capabilities to begin reaching out to our constituents in a more productive way and building valuable, lasting relationships with them."

Thirteen plans to use Convio as the station steps up its online efforts to cultivate new donors - people who are more tech-savvy and likely to expect sophisticated online communications and services. Convio's flexible online tools also will give the station the ability to create timely, personalized Web site content as well as build a larger, more engaged community of viewers and supporters by enabling them to connect through new online forums. Thirteen also anticipates using Convio's solution to transition some offline communications (i.e., program guides, ticketing and registration for special events, etc.) to the Internet.

Convio's integration with Thirteen's donor database, Team Approach, will allow the station to learn more about its supporters in order to communicate with them more effectively. For example, the station will be able to create and distribute personalized emails and targeted newsletters that are more closely aligned with supporters' individual interests. Convio tools also will enable Thirteen to more efficiently handle spikes in online donation activity which normally occur during seasonal pledge drives throughout the year.

"Thirteen/WNET New York, long a leader in public broadcasting, also is displaying strong leadership in its use of the Internet," said Gene Austin, CEO, Convio. "The station wants more than just a long list of supporters' names and emails buried in a database. By using Convio's tools and implementing an online constituent relationship management approach, Thirteen not only will be able to serve its viewers and donors, but will continue to strengthen its base of support and position the station for even greater success for decades to come."
