Donors Give Online at Record Levels for Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

Convio, Inc. Processes Nearly $14 Million in One Day for Organizations Providing Disaster Relief

Americans are donating at record levels over the Internet to relief efforts for the Hurricane Katrina disaster, with many nonprofit organizations raising more online in one day than any other day in the history of their organizations, reports Convio, Inc.

On Wednesday, August 31, Convio customers involved in providing disaster relief services to hurricane victims collectively raised nearly $14 million online. Organizations using Convio for their relief efforts include the American Red Cross, American Humane Association, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Feed the Children, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Texas SPCA and UJA Federation of New York. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, the largest aggregate, single-day online fundraising total by Convio customers was approximately $2 million.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, several of these organizations working with Convio are individually experiencing record levels of Web site traffic and online fundraising, with online donations up by more than 100-fold compared to their normal daily online fundraising totals.

"This is a disaster of catastrophic proportions and Convio is honored to be able to play a part in helping organizations across the country communicate with their constituents and raise desperately needed funds for such an important relief effort," said Gene Austin, CEO, Convio. "The entire Convio team is working around the clock to ensure that our customers continue to receive the level of service and support they need to respond quickly and help people and communities victimized by this unfortunate event."
