Convio (Nasdaq: CNVO), a leading provider of on-demand constituent engagement solutions for nonprofit organizations, today announced that Vinay Bhagat, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer has been named 2010 Business Person of the Year by IndUS Business Journal.

“When Vinay Bhagat co-founded Convio a decade ago, he combined his vision, innovation and the value of the Software-as-a-Service model with insight from leaders in the nonprofit sector to pioneer online fundraising, marketing and advocacy,” said Martin Desmarais,  Editor,  IndUS Business Journal. “Vinay’s vision has led Convio to deliver one of the most successful online fundraising and advocacy platforms in the sector. It has not only helped over a thousand nonprofit organizations to raise billions of dollars, but also has provided lasting careers for employees and made a positive impact on the communities they serve.”

Bhagat founded Convio in April 1999 after volunteering at a public television pledge drive and seeing the opportunity to leverage Internet technology to drive better fundraising results. In 2006, Vinay was named Fundraising Professional of the Year on the agency side by Fundraising Success Magazine. In 2004, Bhagat received an honorable mention as one of the top 25 people worldwide who are changing the world of the Internet and Politics by Politics Online. In April of this year, Convio reached a milestone in the success of the company when it became a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ global market under the symbol CNVO.

“This honor is well deserved,”  said Gene Austin, CEO of Convio. “Vinay’s vision for how technology, particularly the Internet, could change and enhance the relationship between nonprofits and their constituents has been a driving force of change in our sector; one that has inspired more people to engage in philanthropy – to help make the world a better place.”

Added Bhagat, “I am honored to be recognized by IndUS Business Journal. I remain inspired by the nonprofit professionals, volunteers and advocates who work tirelessly to connect people and causes to improve the world. When we launched Convio we had a vision for how innovation and technology could help organizations build enduring relationships that helped them fulfill their missions.
