Convio Invites 2012 SXSW Interactive Festival Attendees To Donate Lunch Money In Support Of Local Nonprofits At “Lounge With A Conscience”

Leveraging Power of Digital and Social Technology, SXSW Attendees From Around the World Can Have Big Impact on Funds Raised for Austin Area Charities

The annual South by Southwest® (SXSW) event is here, and more than thirty thousand participants are descending upon the city of Austin to experience the absolute electric energy of SXSW from March 9th to 18th. But there’s another side of Austin as well.

Like many major cities, there are organizations that provide vital community services to make the Austin area a wonderful, vibrant place both visitors and residents alike enjoy year round. This year, Convio (CNVO) is inviting SXSW Interactive attendees to show their support by donating the equivalent of their designated daily lunch money to four of these local nonprofit organizations being featured at the Beacon Lounge, the “Lounge With a Conscience,” hosted by Convio partner, Beaconfire. The Beacon Lounge is located on the third floor of the Austin Convention Center, Room 8B/C.

The four nonprofit organizations are: Lifelong Friends, providing a safe haven for abandoned and abused animals; American YouthWorks, providing marketable skills for at-risk teens; Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), providing food and other basic necessities to families in need; and American Red Cross Central Texas Region, providing disaster relief and other services to Central Texas.

“SXSW is such a great boost for the Austin community,” said Hank Perret, president and CEO of Capital Area Food Bank. “This year it’s encouraging to see some of the focus given to the nonprofit organizations that make this such a great city. We’re really very excited to have our story shared with SXSW attendees who are on the cutting edge of innovation and community involvement, as many of our friends and neighbors here in Central Texas are struggling to make ends meet. We are certainly looking forward to the economic impact of SXSW extending into the organizations that support the ongoing needs of the Austin community.”

Details, Details
One of the four nonprofit organizations will be featured daily during the 12:00pm to 2:00pm lunch sessions at Beaconfire’s “Lounge With a Conscience.” Cash donations supporting the featured nonprofit will be accepted from attendees at the lounge during lunch in exchange for a complimentary meal, and a mobile donation form will also be available for all SXSW attendees to make a contribution any time throughout the day. In addition, Convio will match all daily donations received up to $500 dollars per organization. The lineup looks like this:

“Convio values community and we invite all SXSW attendees that have chosen Austin as their local community during the next several days to make a difference,” said Gene Austin, president and CEO of Convio. “SXSW Interactive is an inspiring event that brings innovative people from all over the world together for a common purpose. We hope attendees extend this expression of community by supporting the four Austin area nonprofit organizations Convio is featuring from March 10th to 13th as yet another way to convey how much we all value each other.”
