Online Giving Continues at Record Pace, Nearly Doubling Day-Over-Day as Donors Respond to Hurricane Katrina Disaster

Convio, Inc. Processes More Than $44 Million in 48 Hours for Relief Groups Helping Gulf Coast Victims and Communities

Online giving continues to surge, nearly doubling day-over day this week, as donors respond to the Hurricane Katrina disaster, reports Convio, Inc.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, many nonprofit organizations are setting new single-day records for online fundraising. On Thursday, September 1, Convio customers involved in hurricane disaster relief efforts collectively raised more than $20 million online. In 48 hours (August 31-September 1) Convio's customers brought in more than $44 million over the Internet for hurricane victims. For some nonprofits, including large organizations that normally raise significant funds online, donations coming in over the Internet are more than 3000 percent higher than their typical daily online totals.

Convio is the leading provider of software and services to help nonprofits use the Internet strategically to build strong relationships with constituents for driving fundraising, advocacy and other forms of support. Organizations using Convio for their hurricane disaster relief efforts include the American Red Cross, American Humane Association, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Feed the Children, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Texas SPCA and UJA Federation of New York.

"Individuals who are giving online in response to Hurricane Katrina should be assured that donations they're making to Convio customers are going immediately to these organizations so they can respond rapidly to the severe needs of victims and communities in the Gulf Coast region," said Gene Austin, CEO, Convio. "Convio has the technology infrastructure in place to handle the unprecedented level of online giving that this event has triggered, and we'll continue to provide ongoing support to ensure our customers can respond quickly and adequately in providing relief in the wake of this terrible disaster."
